In December of last year, the seaside town of Popotla lost Mariscos La Estrella to a fire that consumed this special place in our hearts. Attended by Lorena Lopez and her family, the restaurant dished out fresh out-of-the-water seaside creations that positioned La Estrella as a destination restaurant in Baja. We also had the fortune of hosting several cookouts with Club Tengo Hambre where our guests had the chance to enjoy La Estrella’s cuisine. Since then, Lopez has earned the title of cocinera tradicional (traditional cook) for her excellent cooking and ingredient use.

After the tragic loss, the food community in Baja is coming together to showcase and celebrate Mariscos La Estrella with a special meal at Mision 19 in Tijuana. On Sunday, February 16— Lorena Lopez will cook alongside Chefs Javier Plascencia, Luis Gomez (Mision 19), Roberto Miranda (Mision 19), Oscar Torres (Animalón), and Marcelo Hisaki (Restaurante Amores). The 6-course dinner starts at 5:00 PM and costs $1,500 Mexican pesos. If you are interested in reserving a spot, you can contact Marie Daniels at marie@callmariedaniels.com for reservations.
